Charlie Company 1/3 reinforced 2/4 the same day. When we saw the 50 or so Marines of 2/4 that fought and survived, they were ashen Grey in their faces and all looked about 40 years old. I’ll never forget their faces. They really were Magnificent. God bless all of them. Semper Fi, God has your backs now.

Thank you for sharing this and for your service. The sacrifices you and the Marines of Charlie 1/3 and 2/4 made will never be forgotten. Leaving behind a young family, is truly heartbreaking. I know Rich was in echo company with Captain Livingston who received the Medal of Honor. Rich was one of the 4 Marines who carried him out of the area.

My cousin Rich Schiltz was in Echo 2/4 radioman with Capt Livingston but was usually Recon Forward Observer but was for some reason with Echo when they moved out. He never spoke much about the war but did one day open up to my brother. He said it was hand to hand and the NVA were all over them. He said all the Marines fought to the last breath but he was one of 3 or 4 that could walk out.

Mr. Johnson..my cousin Rich Schiltz was radioman with Echo 2/4. He was one of the marines that walked out. He only told my brother a few things about the fight at Dai Do…Did you know Rich? He passed last year.
